Hurricane Ike disrupted a lot of people's lives. It disrupted businesses and it disrupted public services. One other item of note, it appears Hurricane Ike was a major disruption to the number of foreclosure filings made last month.
With only 52 filings between August 26th and September 16 that is close to a 50% reduction in the number of filings. Most of the year there have been close to 100 notices of trustee sale filed in any given month. 52 is a nice surprise. It would be great to think less Jefferson County homeowners are facing foreclosure. That's the glass is half full theory. The glass is half empty theory would believe that two mandatory evacuations and days of the courthouse being closed had an impact on the number of filings.
If you are interested in some detective work you can investigate the upcoming foreclosures. The first step is to look up the NOTTS- Notice of Trustee Sale on the Jefferson County Clerk's Office Website. Step two gets a little more complicated you might want to call me.
Next sale: Tuesday October 7, 2008. See you on the Courthouse steps.
